Speechcraft Workshop
They Came! They Tried! They Conquered! That's exactly what our Speechcrafters did! Led by our very own warrior Nick French, the nine Speechcrafters braved the challenges thrown at them over the 4-week workshop. They stood up and spoke off the cuff. They prepared their speeches with passion, they coined interesting speech titles, they executed the parliamentary proceedings, they evaluated each other's performance . . . they did it all!!
Who are the nine Speechcrafters? Meet them at our next meeting on 15 January 2010. Till then, "MAY THE BELT BE WITH YOU" - find out who among the nine owns this statement.

A Night at the Theatre
It's Complicated! So said NUS Stage, an English language theatre group at the National University of Singapore, who staged a production with that title. For the five SIM II Toastmasters who was at the NUS Cultural Centre Theatre to watch the performance, it was a welcome "complication" as it sets the stage for a relaxing Wednesday evening while providing food for thought.
The night out saw all five turning up early hence giving us the opportunity for a good chat over dinner. It was an excellent opportunity for networking and for bonding. It was also a good break from our mid-week routine.

Bowling in Raffles Town Club
Lucky number 13! A group of thirteen people including members, families and friends congregated at the bowling alley in Raffles Town Club on Saturday, 12th September to pit their bowling skills and have fun. At the end of two games, Pavol walked away with the top prize with a score of 295 pins. Wai Man took the second prize with with a total of 223 pins fell. Not bad for the gentlemen who claimed to have not played the game for a while.
The group went for a pleasant walk at the Botanic Garden after bowling. The weather was fine and the company great. Rosalind, the organiser of this event, called for a pit stop during which the group had to undergo two IQ Tests. This provided a good balance to the physical exercises undertaken thus far. At the end of the tests, Chee Liang must have been very proud of the Brains-in-Law as the Law Family swept the winning prize.
The evening concluded with a nice, leisurely dinner at the food court in the garden. At the end of it all, everyone when home with a winning smile. It was indeed a good outing!

Karaoke Nite
And the winners are....Gabriel Leong and Law Chee Liang!! These are our top two singers. Should there be an area and/or district singing contest, no doubt SIM II Toastmasters will win hands down.
Members and friends gathered yet again for an evening of FUN on 14th August 2009. This time around it was at the Kampong Kembangan Community Club. We practised vocal variety in the karaoke lounge. The young and young-at-heart took to the stage and belted it out. With members and friends providing vocal support and plenty of encouragement, it was all systems go. Our photo gallery shows it all. Enjoy it!

Southern Ridges Canopy Walk
Close to 20 participants comprising members and their families congregated at Hort Park on the evening of 11 July to undertake a 4km walk through the southern ridges of Singapore. The weather was with us throughout the evening. It was cool and breezy, making for a perfet setting for an enjoyable walk.
We made our way to the hilltop of Telok Blangah where the "Hill Top Walk" began. We walked through the Henderson waves and the Faber trail. We made two short stops along the way to rest and relax with a round of Sudoku, a number puzzle, and two "Kampong" games. Couples had their legs tied to compete in a three legged race. That was followed by an improvised game of "marble" where individuals had a chance to showcase a combined skills of bowling, throwing and sharp-shooting to hit the marbles (colourful tennis balls). All who pitted their skills had fun!
The big challenge
for the evening began at around 7.30pm. It was already dark when we reach the start of the Malang trail. It was an unlit step-down earth trail spanning 800m. Parents and children were given options to take an easier route but all opted to go for the challenge. Aileen's little grandson even claimed that the dark trail was "not spooky" at all as he "can see everything". Such were the bravery and enthusiasm of our young companions who include Chee Liang's very sporty son, Jit Khoon's little son and daughter (the youngest participant) and Aileen's two grand-children. They were still bubbly and full of energy at the end of the walk!!

Changing of Guards
The handing over of responsibilities by the "old guards" to the newly elected President Gabriel Leong and his team took place on 19 June. This marked the official start to a new term 2009/10. The installation ceremony was officiated by our very own Aileen Tan. The occasion was graced by the Executive Director of SIM, Ronald Tan who gave a keynote speech. It was also witnessed by the Area B1 Governor, Koh Hock Seng.
As with all our club's events, there was food aplenty and the evening ended with an interesting round of games. All who were present had a fun-filled evening. A vote of thanks to our Immediate Past President, Katherine Choo and her team who carried the torch for the last one year, and for organising this wonderfully successful event.
