Becoming a Toastmaster

A Toastmaster's Education Journey
SIM II Toastmasters Club is dedicated to helping her members improve their communication, public speaking and leadership skills in a friendly, supportive environment.

To accomplish this, SIM II Toastmasters guides members along the Communication and Leadership Tracks.

How Does One Become A Competent Communicator?
You have to complete the Competent Communication (CC) manual, which in effect means you will have to work your way through the ten speech projects contained therein. After you have finished your manual, you will need to complete the registration information in the back of the manual and send it in to World Headquarters in California.

How Does One Become An Advanced Communicator?
Advanced Communication (AC) is the next level of Toastmasters achievement after the CC. If you like, you can consider the CC the "core curriculum" and the AC your actual "major", as there are 15 "specializations" you can choose from, to get your AC. For each AC level - bronze, silver, gold, you must complete any 2 of 15 Advanced Communicator manuals, as well as other specific requirements.

The 15 Advanced Communicator manuals available, each with five speech projects are:

The Entertaining Speaker
Speaking To Inform
Public Relations
The Discussion Leader
Specialty Speeches
Speeches By Management
The Professional Speaker
Technical Presentations
Persuasive Speaking
Communicating On Television
Storytelling
Interpretive Reading
Interpersonal Communication
Special Occasion Speeches
Humorous Speaking

How Does One Become A Competent Leader?
You have to complete the ten-project Competent Leadership manual. This manual was made available in January 2006.

How Does One Become An Advanced Leader?
At each Advanced Leader level - bronze and silver, you must have served Toastmasters International as an officer in a leadership capacity among other requirements.

How Does One Become A Distinguished Toastmaster?
Once you achieved both the Advanced Communicator Gold and Advanced Leader Silver awards, you will then be bestowed the Distinguished Toastmaster award. This is the highest recognition a member may receive.

Toastmasters International had put in place a new Education Program in January 2006! For more details, please click here.
